We love capturing the moment, any time, anywhere. In fact, one of our co-founders is an amateur photographer. So, when Night Mode came to the Android phones, we were a bit jealous. We took on the challenge, however, to bring Night Mode to the iPhone, even before Apple did. And we made it. NeuralCam is the fruit of Halcyon Mobile’s AI lab, and our second AI-based consumer product.
We made this possible by using the latest technologies based on AI and computational photography. When taking a photo, NeuralCam captures multiple frames. These are merged together in a smart way to obtain a higher-quality image. Furthermore, its machine-learning algorithm brightens up different regions of the image at a different level to make it look more natural. As the last step, noise reduction, sharpening, and other image processing filters are applied to improve the look of the final image.
The iPhone 11 came with new camera features, like the ultra-wide-angle lens, which we enjoy greatly. However, night mode is not supported for it.
Although the image quality of the ultra-wide and front-facing cameras slightly differs due to their lack of image stabilization, we have decided not to limit our users in their creativity, and provide the night mode experience for both.
NeuralCam is about taking amazing photos at night in the seamless way possible. We’ve designed it to be minimalistic, carefully placing the elements and buttons to be within reach and visible, but at the same time out of the way.
